Bijagos people have very distinct customs.

Their culture is rich in tradition, music, and spiritual ritual. If by chance a traditional tribal ceremony is expected during your journey, the crew will manage to organize a visit under the authorization of the village’s chief.

Attending a Bijogos ceremony is an once-in-a-lifetime experience. They provide a valuable insight to a traditional culture that has been passed down from generation to generation. There are very colourful celebrations with much symbolism in their dancing and drumming.

Please notice that planning in advance can be difficult currently for most traditional ceremonies. Most do not have a set recurring date each year, some not even held annually.
