Guinea Bissau and the Bijagos Islands

This chain of small tropical islands and islets really are a tropical paradise, clear blue sea and palm fringed beaches are everything you would expect from the Caribbean. It is just a 6-hour flight from Europe.

As Africa's largest archipelago, the region encompasses 36,000 sq. km. of largely protected saltwater wilderness. Of the 88 major islands, only 20 are inhabited.
The islands of Bubaque, Bolama, and Caravela are the most populated and are visited by tourists.

There are sandy beaches, rugged lava points, mangrove inlets, river-like channels and an incredible variety of flora and fauna that make this region a nature lovers’ paradise especially for bird watching. The southern islands are listed among UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

The Bijagos archipelago has long been known as a fishermen paradise.
